Freedom of Information Law

Ben Ari Fish, Law Firm, has special expertise in freedom of information law. The legal team specializing in this area of law provides comprehensive legal counselling to the firm’s clients constituting “Public Authorities” under the Freedom of Information Law, beginning with the receipt of a request for information, through procedures for analyzing the legal options for disclosing the information, to disclosing the information to the public and, if so needed, representing such clients in administrative petitions in accordance with the law.

The team specializing in freedom of information law, led by Adv. Gili Shefer (Yoffe), has actively participated in various legislative procedures relating to application of the law to different public authorities.

In addition we represent business and private clients in freedom of information applications to various ministries, while optimizing the requests for information, as well as providing legal representation in  litigation proceedings when needed.

The legal team has taken part in precedent-setting legal proceedings under the Freedom of Information Law, including a precedential ruling analyzing the exeption of “violation of the academic freedom” as cause for non-disclosure of information under the law.

A precedent setting argument was accepted in another case, according to which “shaming” and “cyberbullying” may be considered as violation of an individual’s well-being, and therefore as cause for non-disclosure of information under the Freedom of Information Law.

Adv. Gili Shefer (Yoffe) lectures on freedom of information in various forums, among them the Freedom of Information Congress.

In recent years, Ben Ari Fish, Law Firm, has been ranked in the “elite group” of law firms in Israel in the area of administrative law in the Dun’s 100 and BDi quality rankings.
